What is a face lift?
A face lift, also known as rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure in which the excess skin around your face is removed. The remaining skin is then uplifted. Folds and wrinkles are also smoothed out and the skin is tightened. This will not only provide a more youthful look but also remove deep wrinkles and creases around the mouth and nose. How long does a face lift and neck lift take and what kind of anaesthesia do you use?
A standard face lift will take approximately 3 to 4 hours. You can combine this with eyelid or brow surgery which extends the duration to 6 hours. A standard neck lift will take approximately 2 to 4 hours. General anaesthesia is the standard type used for these procedures.
What can I expect after a face lift and neck lift?
Once you are out of the operating room you will be brought to your hospital room where you will stay until you are fit for discharge.
Your doctor will give you instructions on when you can remove your bandages and dressings, as well as provide you your medication and instructions on how to take them.
You will likely experience swelling which will subside. Then you can experience the full results of your surgery.
You must not perform normal physical activity for around 2 weeks and wait 4 weeks before performing moderate physical exercise.
You must stay out of the sun and moisturise your skin to protect it from the damages of sunlight and ageing.
